"We have had a great couple of months - it is going really well," says owner Gareth Caldwell.   "People complement us all the time on the way the pub has turned out. "

With a basic design plan already in place for the development of a new Ale House, there was a certain amount of leeway with design features during plan discussions for the new building. Gareth explains, "although we are required to stick to a basic plan our designer was able to incorporate some funky new colours and features which includes the timber-inserted, coloured concrete floor. "

"We have achieved a few firsts on a couple of levels with our new design concept. It has been viewed by many owner operators around the country and will be rolled out in all new Ale Houses that are built over the next couple of years and I am told that this is also the first time that Firth's new range of coloured concrete, Elements, has been used in New Zealand. "

A raised floor was constructed over the existing concrete slab with decorative coloured concrete poured on top of this insitu with stained timber inserts.

A raised floor was constructed over the existing concrete slab with decorative coloured concrete poured on top of this insitu with stained timber inserts. "A quantity of 07 Cloudburst was supplied for the job," says Brent Stewart Firth's Area Operations / Sales Manager (Upper South Island). "It's the first time we've used the new colour system and it was very easy to use. It all went swimmingly well."

Firth's new range of coloured concrete, Elements, is a stylish low-maintenance durable option with colours to compliment any environment. "The designer wanted the floor to have a very rustic finish so we sanded it in places to create the desired affect," says Mike Cooper, Construction Manager for the build.

"It's a destination bar and it definitely looks sharp. There's a lot of stone work and warm colours, combined with natural products like timber and concrete which all work together well. It's a great kiwi pub," adds Brent.

"We are really happy with the final result," says Gareth. "The whole place looks great and the floor just adds to the whole effect. I am really pleased."
