Summary

Firth’s coloured concrete range Elements – 07 Cloud burst – has once again been a feature of a brand new pub – this time in Cambridge. The new bar opened in 2012 and is aptly nick-named the ‘FIVE STAGS’. It features, as you can imagine, five impressive stag heads on the wall above the bar that calmly view the scene below.

The design brief given to Leslie Elliot, Director of Evolve Designs by Lion, required the new pub to be a traditional design capturing New Zealand using a hunting lodge theme. The pub would offer food reflective of New Zealand’s game and rustic cuisine and feature iconic hunting heritage and memorabilia displays. With the existing building layout in hand Evolve Design worked within the space to create the necessary dining/bar zones with a feature stone fireplace. The Five Stags were designated to be a prominent feature above the bar. Unique features of the new concept bar included columns which were exposed and incorporated into life-like trees, a freestanding hunter’s cabin and life-sized duck shooter’s Mai Mai.

“We were really impressed with the finished Elements coloured concrete for the new generation Speight’s Alehouse project in Nelson so we were able to confidently specify the same Cloud burst concrete again for the Five Stags Concept Bar rollout throughout New Zealand,” says Leslie.

“The pub looks amazing and we have received lots of positive comments about how it turned out,” says Matt Palmer, Bar Owner of Leamington Tavern
